How To Fix Our Country
In today's lesson, boys and girls, this Captain is going to prescribe his solution to all the political blundering which has bound and gagged this nation into bureacratic stalemate. I talk, of course, of the bi-partisan system. George Washington warned us against bipartisanship in his farewell address.
But, like a rebellious teenager bucking the advice of his wise Founding Father, the United States ignored his pleas and set up a bipartisan system of government. Things have gone to Hell in a handbasket ever since. Democrats are "liberal". Republicans are "conservative". Both of them have some good ideas. Both of them have some pretty bad ideas. Neither will work with the other. Put them in a room together, and nothing gets done.
Therefore, the opposite of "progress" is "congress". Senators, presidents, representatives, you name it-- most of them are only trying to further their political agenda, which has been written by the top brass members of their political party, and thus does not necessarily represent the views of the people (us, remember?) who elected them in the first place. So what are we gonna do?
Disband political parties. That's right, I'm a radical. And here's another radical idea: politicians should represent the concerns of the people who elected them. They should work with one another to solve problems and make this country a better place to live. In theory, the bipartisan system should accomplish this. Unfortunately, it doesn't, and to continue using it will only further imbed the United States in political muck and red tape. WE NEED TO START SOLVING PROBLEMS. Government today consists of committees, accusations, finger-pointing, "possible solutions", "plausible deniability", and "fooling the American public for their own good". Folks, there is a problem here. And it's not the fault of one political party or the other, which is what I've heard lately and I can tell you it's a bunch of B.S. The fault lies with the bipartisan system, but, more importantly, the fault lies with you and me for not doing something about the problems. Are you sick of how things work? Have you had it with alterior motives and the slow-moving vehicle of democracy? Are you willing to accept the simple fact that there are good and bad politicians in BOTH parties? If you are, then please do yourself a favor. Start voting for politicians who represent your beliefs. Don't vote for the PARTY that represents your beliefs, vote for the PERSON. A political party is an alliance of "like-minded" persons, which does not represent the majority and gains power through name recognition and money. A politician is somebody who represents the people.
From now on, ignore political parties when casting votes. Let's wake up the American Public: Bipartisanship is destroying our democracy. As another great president once said, "united we stand, divided we fall".
